Book launch: “Atem” by and with the artist Rada Nastai
On Saturday 25th November – 5/8 p.m.
A combination of found images and photography, the book is documenting an imagined performance by following the bodily positions recommended for breathing exercises in an old German dictionary. The oddity of the illustrations showing people distorting in the search for physical comfort feels like a metaphor for the contemporary practices we immerse ourselves in to find ease and reach a state of well-being in a world we’ve built for ourselves, but feels foreign.
Playing with the decontextualization of these images reiterates the nonsensical in the human behaviour.
The book is riso-printed in the artists’ studio in Berlin, in an edition of 150 and will be sold at a special price with the occasion of the launch.
